Deep Dive: The S&P 500 Just Hit A Record High — So Did These Stocks

Investors clearly find the U.S. stock market an attractive haven in a world of incredibly low (or negative) interest rates.

The S&P 500 Index SPX, +0.05%  hit an all-time intraday high on July 10, rising above 3,000 for the first time, before closing at 2,993.07, its second-highest close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.47%  and the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -0.02%  also hit all-time intraday highs that same day.

So did more than 10% of the S&P 500’s components.

With negative-yielding bonds around the world totaling more than $13 trillion, it is no surprise to see money continuing to pour into U.S. securities markets. A continual stream of dovish language from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, adds fuel to the momentum from the Fed’s shift in policy direction in March and the softening of language in the Federal Open Market Committee’s most recent statement.

The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes TMUBMUSD10Y, +1.10%  has fallen to 2.07% from 5.22% at the end of May and 2.69% at the end of 2018.

Among the S&P components, 54 stocks hit intraday highs, adjusted for stock splits and spinoffs, on July 10, according to data supplied by FactSet. That is quite a list, so here they are, separated by sectors, in alphabetical order. You can click the tickers for more about each company, including profiles, news coverage and financials.
