There are plenty of platforms for finding vacation rentals, but if you’re looking to narrow down your search, Vrbo has just unveiled its 2026 Holidays Homes of the Year.

Released annually since 2021, the list is chosen based on a number of factors, including location, host quality (which is based on booking acceptance rate and host cancellations), and whether the home has facilities like pools, hot tubs or game rooms that are ideal for gatherings.

To be considered, homes also have to be in the top 10% of properties in a destination, based on reviews.

“This year’s list reflects just how far traveller expectations have evolved and how our partners continue to rise to the occasion,” Tim Rosolio, vice president of vacation rental partnerships at Vrbo, said.

“From unique design and standout amenities to the small, thoughtful touches that build trust, these homes deliver the kind of exceptional experiences that today’s travellers don’t just appreciate, they expect.”

The Lighthouse in Gairloch, Scottish Highlands

Found in Gairloch in the Scottish Highlands, this gorgeous property has views over the sea to the Torridon Mountains.

Making the most of the views with floor-to-ceiling windows on the first floor, guests can snuggle up here by the fire or head out onto the balcony.

A great base for walks along the coast where you can go whale watching and boating, other top activities include playing nine holes at Gairloch Golf Club and horseback riding.

Casa M in the Algarve, Portugal

If you’re more interested in a stay with guaranteed good weather, Casa M in the Algarve might be up your alley.

Located in Lagos, the luxurious villa sleeps 12 and features a 22.5-metre heated infinity pool as well as a roof terrace overlooking the ocean.

You can keep fit on holiday, thanks to the in-villa gym, or relax with a movie in the cinema room once the sun goes down.

Chalet Happyview in Haute-Savoie, France

One for skiers, Chalet Happyview in Haute-Savoie is just 2.3 kilometres from the slopes.

Able to sleep 15, this spot has a cosy Alpine feel with a side of spectacular views from its perch above the nearby village.
