The Hellenic Seaplanes mission is the first air link between two southeast European countries using a seaplane and is regarded as a milestone in developing a broader network of maritime air services in the Ionian and Adriatic region.

The initiative follows an official invitation from the Albanian authorities and forms part of a broader framework of cooperation for the development of seaplane infrastructure and new cross-border transport corridors.

Its aim is to connect coastal cities, island regions and tourist destinations across the Mediterranean.

Flights to Vlorë and Pogradec are the first practical step towards implementing a plan that aspires to make Greece a centre of expertise and operations for seaplane networks in the wider region.

Having already developed an extensive network of licensed water aerodromes in Greece, Hellenic Seaplanes is now moving on to the international expansion of its activities, with the aim of creating a new transport system that uses the marine environment as a natural infrastructure for mobility.

According to the company’s strategic planning, the Greek-Albanian connection is only the beginning. Next steps include developing a wider network that will cover countries of the Adriatic, the Ionian, the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa, strengthening connectivity, tourism and economic cooperation between these regions.
