De Vie, which is located in the French capital’s Montorgueil quarter, was given the accolade at the 20th edition of the awards from Tales of the Cocktail Foundation (TOTCF).

The bar is known for its five-step seasonal tasting menu, served with snacks over the course of an hour and a half. Drinks are tasting portions, so the entire experience is the equivalent of three standard cocktails, and you can also opt for the non-alcoholic option.

As the menu is seasonal, drinks are constantly changing, but a sample on the website includes concoctions such as the strawberry, with oxidised strawberry, fig leaf wine and strawberry spirit; the fennel, with fennel spirit, fennel leaf cordial, and celery eau de vie; and the rhubarb, with cryo-concentrated rhubarb wine, rhubarb and crème fraîche liqueur.

You can also order à la carte drinks like the pepper, with charred pepper spirit, prickly pear eau de vie and herb stem cordial, and plates such as yellowtail tartare or agnolotti.

Satan’s Whiskers in London’s Bethnal Green was named the best international cocktail bar. The awards are split into best international, best US, and best overall.

A venue in Singapore took home the top prize, with FURA named the world’s best bar.

Named after the Swedish word for pine, the bar is all about sustainability and makes use of ingredients that are either in abundance, invasive or prevalent.

The creatively-named refreshments include “beans, beans the musical fruit”, which has Empirical soka, tonka bean, butter bean koji and pea shoot, and “get the worm”, featuring Altos Plata tequila, chilli, mealworm, orange and lime.

The food menu is equally innovative, with a jellyfish ceviche using an invasive spotted coral jellyfish and a somma mafaldine pasta with charred Talula Hill Farm purple corn.
