Expats living and working in Prague may be forbidden to travel but can still buy food favourites from across the world.

Travel bans and lockdowns have become the norm for expat professionals living and working in Prague, but the city’s international food stores can provide the ingredients for a truly international taste thrill. The Czech Republic is now lifting its quarantine regulations, causing expats as well as locals to venture out to favourite food stores and either stock up on supplies or arrange home deliveries.

Being confined to one’s home is a trial guaranteed to increase expat stress levels, but the simple act of shopping for favourite foodstuffs has taken on new significance now Prague’ quarantine regulations are being eased. Favourite stores such as Thai’s Asian Food Shop on Vrsovice stocks a massive selection of ingredients including herbs and spices from Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand and, for lovers of Italian food and wine, Italian Grocer Wine and Food Market’s three outlets offer everything necessary for a traditional Italian feast.

For expats with sweet teeth, the three Candy Store branches stock treats galore as well as savoury delights including Vegemite and spam, with offers varying week by week. For lovers of Mexican cuisine there’s the Mexicali Mercado restaurant and import store with its selection of spices and flavours. For a true taste of the Philippines, P. Noy Tastes of Asia is the original and only Filipino store in the city, and for lovers of Indian curries there’s no place better than the Shalamar Indian and Pakistani store. Finally, if the red-hot spices of Korean curries are your thing, the ingredients at Korean Grocer Shin Food are as authentic as it gets.
