Qatar expats and their families are making the most of the Eid al-Fitr holiday season.

Although a few expats resident in the emirate flew back to their home counties to spend time with friends and family, Qatar’s beach resorts, restaurants, parks and hotel special celebrations were all busy during the traditional Muslim holiday period following the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Favourite destinations for days out including Mesaieed’s Sealine Beach resort area and Ghariya Beach north of Doha.

According to one expat, the Eid holidays are a chance to meet up with friends and explore all Qatar’s stunning beaches, most of which are relatively uncrowded in spite of the holiday. This year, they plan to camp at Ghariya Beach after visiting several other beaches along the way. Another popular way to enjoy time off is by a staycation at one of Doha’s hotels, an excellent option for families with very young children. Hotels have amenities for those finding the summer weather too hot for excursions to the beach, with temperature-controlled comfort for babies and everything on hand causing many to return to the same hotel year after year.

In the cooler evenings, the city’s souks and shopping districts are crammed with holidaymakers enjoying the huge variety of foods set out in traditional surroundings. Air-conditioned malls are another popular way to meet up with friends and have a meal in one of the huge selection of international food outlets, and the city’s parks are alive with picnickers and residents enjoying a leisurely stroll.
