The Hoxton, Brussels opened earlier this week in a 22-storey Brutalist building which formerly housed the European headquarters of IBM. Design blends 1970s decor with Brutalist silhouettes and motifs, along with bespoke murals by Brussels-based artists.

Located opposite the city’s botanical gardens, the hotel is complete with 198 rooms, a double-height open-plan lobby with a bar, Peruvian restaurant Cantina Valentina and rooftop taqueria Tope, and the brand’s meeting and events space ‘The Apartment’.

Later this year, the brand will also introduce its Working From co-working space in the building. This will mark the brand’s third co-working venue, with existing spaces in London’s Southwark and Chicago hotels.

In line with the sustainable ethos, the hotel has partnered with electric bikes specialists Cowboy, enabling guests to explore the city by bike.

On the ESG side, previous initiatives by the brand include donating winter beds to homeless communities through its annual Stay for a Stay campaign, and eliminating single-use plastics or using repurposed materials and upcycled furniture.

In Brussels the brand has partnered with charity L’Ilot to provide support and help to homeless communities. Alongside financial assistance and donations of bedding, towels and equipment, the hotel team will also take part in volunteering shifts to support the centre.

The Hoxton brand launched in London’s Shoreditch in 2006, and currently has 12 properties open across Europe and North America, with recent openings including The Hoxton, Charlottenburg in West Berlin, and The Hoxton, Shepherd’s Bush in London (see below for our Tried and Tested review).

The brand will open its second property in Amsterdam in August, situated in the city’s Eastern Docklands, within a 1920s building formerly home to by the Royal Dutch Lloyd Shipping Company.
