The debt-laden Jet Airways recently announced a temporary suspension of operations, thereby leaving more than 20,000 employees with an uncertain future ahead.

However, rival Indian airlines including SpiceJet and Air India, who are on a robust expansion plan, are now offering jobs to these employees. The companies are said to offer jobs on a contract basis to experienced employees but with lower pay packages.

As per few industry reports, Air India has almost concluded hiring 150 Jet Airways cabin crew staff for its international routes. The flag carrier of India is also looking at the prospects of leasing five of Jet’s grounded Boeing 777 aircraft for its international services.

SpiceJet also recently hired about 500 employees including pilots, cabin crew, technical and other ground staff with most of them coming from Jet Airways.

Ajay Singh, Chairman, and Managing Director, SpiceJet said, “As we expand and grow, we are giving first preference to those who have recently lost their jobs due to the unfortunate closure of Jet Airways. We have already provided jobs to more than 100 pilots, more than 200 cabin crew and more than 200 technical and airport staff. We will do more.

“We will also induct a large number of planes in our fleet soon. SpiceJet is making all possible efforts to minimise passenger inconvenience and serve Indian customers who are finding it difficult to get seats in this busy season.”
