American Airlines says it now offers “more aircraft with high‑speed wifi than any other airline”, following the fitting of over 700 narrowbody planes with connectivity.

The carrier said that its “entire long-term narrowbody fleet” is now equipped with satellite-based wifi and live TV access.

AA also said that upgraded bandwidth capacity means that “even if every customer chooses to access inflight internet at the same time”, connection quality and speed won’t be affected.

Connectivity is provided by either Gogo 2Ku or Via Sat KA depending on the aircraft, and passengers can stream 12 channels of live TV to their personal devices free of charge, as well as over 50 million songs playlists and music videos through a recent partnership with Apple Music.

To help enable customers to make use of the connectivity, AA says it is installing power “at every seat across its mainline fleet”, as well as on its two-class regional aircraft, and the majority of the airline’s narrowbody planes are also being retrofitted with tablet holders.

Commenting on the news Kurt Stache, Senior Vice President for Marketing, Loyalty and Sales for AA, said:

“Elevating the travel experience is one of our top goals at American and we’ve been working hard to provide our customers with the same level of entertainment and connectivity options they enjoy in their own living rooms.

“In less than two years, we completed broadband internet installation on our entire mainline fleet and we will continue setting new standards in the industry to show our customers we value the time they spend with us.”
