To further control the pandemic in the region, Airport Authority of Hong Kong has announced new arrival protocols for passengers coming from a high-risk country.

Effective from July 25, arriving passengers who have stayed in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines and South Africa on or before 14 days of boarding a flight to Hong Kong, have to submit documents to their airlines to show that they have tested negative for Covid-19.

Documents required are:

  • A letter or certificate in English/Chinese issued by a laboratory or healthcare institution indicating the name and identity card or passport number of the relevant traveller to show that he/she underwent a nucleic acid test for Covid-19, 72 hours before the scheduled time of departure; the test conducted on the sample is a nucleic acid test for Covid-19; and the test result is negative.
  • The original report for the test issued by the laboratory or healthcare institution having the name and identity card or passport number of the traveller.
  • An official letter in English/Chinese stating that the laboratory or healthcare institution is recognised or approved by the government.
  • The concerned passenger has confirmation of room reservation in a hotel in Hong Kong for not less than 14 days starting on the day of the arrival.

A similar procedure will be in place for travellers who have stayed in countries including the USA and Kazakhstan. This will come into effect from July 29.
