Sompo International Names New CEO Of Global Reinsurance

Sompo International Holdings has revealed that, subject to applicable regulatory approval, it has appointed Christopher “Chris” Donelan as chief executive officer of Sompo International (SI) Reinsurance.
In his new role, Donelan will report to Christopher Gallagher, CEO of SI Commercial P&C business. He succeeds Stephen Young, who resigned as CEO of SI Reinsurance to pursue other interests, a release said.
Donelan most recently served as the deputy CEO of SI Reinsurance. Prior to joining Sompo in 2013, he held a number of senior reinsurance leadership roles at various P&C carriers – he has more than 30 years of industry experience. Donelan earned his MBA from St. John’s University and has both the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and Associate in Reinsurance designations.
“I am extremely pleased that Chris has assumed the role of CEO of SI’s reinsurance business. His extensive industry experience, strong relationships with our major clients, distribution partners and employees, historical knowledge of our company combined with a proven track record of building profitable and meaningful reinsurance portfolios qualifies him as the ideal executive to lead our reinsurance business,” said SI Commercial P&C CEO Christopher Gallagher.
Gallagher confirmed that Donelan will be joining the SI Commercial P&C executive team. The chief executive also gave thanks to Stephen Young for his over 17-year tenure with the company.
“I’m honored to accept the role of CEO of SI’s Reinsurance business having been a part of this team for over six years. Emerging from all the current market turmoil, I am convinced we have the opportunity to substantially increase the profile of our reinsurance platform to become an even more relevant and strategic, global partner for our cedants and broker partners,” commented Donelan on his appointment.
