NY financial regulator files insurance fraud charges against opioid manufacturers

New York’s Department of Financial Services (DFS) has filed insurance fraud charges against opioid manufacturers Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan Plc.

According to a statement from Governor Andrew Cuomo, the DFS alleged in its filing that both Teva and Allergan took part in fraudulent marketing and promotional campaigns – campaigns which misrepresented the safety and effectiveness of opioid drugs.

Reuters reached out to both Teva and Allergan for comment, but neither were able to immediately respond.
