Investment Week Reveals Winners Of Sustainable Investment Awards 2023

Now in their 17th year, these awards are intended to recognise fund providers, research & ratings teams, wealth managers, fund selectors, service providers, consultancies and individuals who have a key part to play in the evolution of sustainable investing.

Groups and individuals were only considered if they submitted an entry for these awards. The entries were judged by a panel of sustainable investment experts from across the industry who helped decide the shortlists and selected the final winners. You can meet the panel here.

For the fund categories, the judges considered factors including: strength of the sustainable team; meeting the fund's sustainable objectives; excellence in sustainable investing within the investment process; performance record; strong engagement record; effective client communication; wider fund impact; and key developments on the strategy in the past year.

For the other categories, entrants had to provide examples of innovation, original thinking, inspiring leadership or wider industry impact in this area, especially over the past year.

New categories

This year we were pleased to announce a number of new categories including Best Sustainable Investment Consultancy, Best Sustainable Investment Engagement Initiative and the Excellence in ESG Integration in Investment Management category.

We also had new categories for Newcomer Funds, open to sustainable funds with between a one-year and three-year track record as at 31 January 2023, as well as categories for new launches over the past year.

Group awards

Investment Week also presented a number of company awards on the night. This year's Sustainable Investment Fund Management Group of the Year (AUM under £50bn) was awarded to CCLA Investment Management. The judges praised the group as a clear leader, pushing the industry on more emerging topics such as mental health, living wages and modern day slavery.

Robeco took home the accolade of Sustainable Investment Fund Management Group of the Year (AUM £50bn or above). The judges said the group continues to innovate across asset classes, produce unique products, and runs an excellent engagement programme.

Meanwhile, the award for Best Sustainable Investment ETF Provider of the Year was given to Global X ETFs. The judges said this group is a dedicated specialist focused on sustainable thematics, which is expanding reach, accessibility and educational support for this part of sustainable investing.

Individual awards

Our categories for individuals included a new award for Best Sustainable Investment Wealth Manager/Fund Selector. This year's winner was Paris Jordan from Waverton Investment Management.   The judges said Paris is not only an internal champion of sustainable investing but she has also worked hard to educate investors and showed her commitment to having an impact at industry level.

Meanwhile, this year's Rising Star Sustainable Investment Champion of the Year was Jess Henry from Man Group. The judges said Jess has been incredibly active during her very short time in the industry. She is clearly leading on internal biodiversity efforts, as well as across the wider sector with her work on the Investment Association, UK SIF and diversity initiatives.

Finally, our Outstanding Contribution to the Sustainable Investment Industry award was presented to Dr James Corah of CCLA Investment Management.  Our judges said he is leading collaborative action across the industry and is having a real impact in areas others have not explored.
