Blue waters, sunshine, culture and rich history. These are some of the things that put Corfu high on the list of popular tourist destinations.

It is because of this that tourist numbers have increased in recent years.

In 2024 alone, tourists visiting the island increased by 7 per cent, reaching a total of almost 2 million. At the same time, since 2019, international flight arrivals have increased by 32 per cent, and by 31 per cent for arrivals via ferry services.

Mouse Island is an iconic image and attraction for global tourism, but now the local authorities have changed direction. They are seeking higher-quality development to make tourism in Corfu sustainable.

The opening of new markets has also played an important role in the search for tourists who spend more money.

The majority of tourists come from Britain, followed by Germany, Italy, Poland and France. These five markets represent 75 per cent of the tourists in Corfu.

With the authorities' new plan, the aim is to make Corfu a magnet for tourists from all over the world who want to have a luxury holiday in a beautiful place full of wonderful beaches and unique attractions.

Direct flights are the big attraction. There are currently 33 five-star hotels in Corfu and several boutique hotels that cater to tourists with deep pockets.

As a result, tour operators are investing in luxury accommodation, reinforcing the policy Corfu wants to pursue to avoid mass tourism and attract wealthy customers.
