A Boeing 747 aircraft isn’t usually where you’d expect to find your hotel bed. But in Malaysia’s city of Johor Bahru, 18 hotel suites are taking off without reaching high altitudes…

At 1975 Avenue & Hotel, two Boeing 747 aircraft once built to carry hundreds of passengers are now getting a slightly different kind of overnight guest. The aviation-themed property has transformed the twin planes, named Bove and Bey, with 18 suites.
Having soft-opened to the public in August, the suites are themed by country, with stays inspired by Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Czechia, England, Italy, and among others, Switzerland.
Inside, the suites are split across two floors and have enough room for a king-size bed, a freestanding bathtub and rain shower in the bathroom plus a separate living area.
All suites can house a maximum of three people, with a nights’ stay in September ranging from 1,706 RM (€360.66) to 2786 RM (€588.99), depending on the suite category.
After ‘disembarking’ from your aircraft suite, guests can choose from a range of dining options.
At The Hanareya @ 1975 eatery serves up authentic Japanese breakfast, lunch and dinner, where the artistry of Japanese fine dining takes centre stage. On the menu are sushi, sashimi and wagyu dishes accompanied with truffle shavings.
Away from the clinks of cutlery and chatters of guests, the hotel’s Gem Spa & Wellness is a space for rest, relaxation and rejuvenation, with treatments, holistic therapies and wellness rituals.
1975 Avenue & Hotel also has a gym, steam room, rooftop swimming pool, sunken jacuzzi, a man-made beach pool, and for families, the Playscape Water Park hosts an array of waterplay activities to keep the kids occupied.
For visitors who may have a fear of flying, the hotel also offers a selection of 20 rooms in a separate hotel block.
Location wise, the aviation-inspired stay is a stone’s throw away from Senai International Airport, and also within reach of attractions, such as Johor Premium Outlets – a luxury mall with 150 designer and name brand outlet stores and spots to eat.
With two Boeing 747s now accepting overnight guests, I might have to book myself a seat, or rather, a suite, next time I’m in Johor Bahru.
