It starts from the second you land at Velana International Airport, when you’re whisked away on a seaplane or a branded speedboat, leaving the real world (and your shoes – it’s all about barefoot luxury here, darling) behind.
You’re even on a different time zone: Many of the resorts run by “island time”, which is an hour off the one followed in the capital Malé.
Having said all of that, we’re fully confident that this new resort from Aman is going to take things to whole new levels.
The celeb favourite hotel brand has just announced it will be opening its first-ever hotel in the Maldives, with the first guests due in 2028.
Located in the secluded Vaavu Atoll, Amanolu takes its name from the Sanskrit word for peace and the water lily Olu which is found throughout the Indian Ocean region.
Designed by Kerry Hill Architects (KHA), the 52-room hotel takes inspiration “from the white coralline beaches, turquoise lagoons and pristine island setting of the Maldives”.
Amanolu will have a dedicated wellness island with an Aman Spa and the brand’s signature Spa Houses, as well as an activity island, offering diving, snorkelling and watersports.
The hotel will also be home to several restaurants and bars, although the details of these are yet to be revealed.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the new Aman (read: ridiculous) are the 16 branded residences.
Each residence will occupy its own island, with some that are oriented to enjoy the sunrise or sunset, and others that have beaches on both sides for uninterrupted views day-to-night.
Homes will have five bedrooms, private beaches and a 25-metre swimming pool, as well as dedicated staff accommodation.
