Russia will stop all regular and charter flights into and out of the country from Friday, Reuters reports.

Moscow authorities also announced that all shops (excluding food stores and pharmacies), restaurants, cafes and bars would be closed from March 28 to April 5, after the country’s coronavirus case tally rose to 840.

Russian airlines will be allowed to operate rescue flights to bring citizens home.

Flag carrier Aeroflot had planned to continue some international routes, including Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Dublin, Geneva, London, Madrid, Paris, New York and Rome.

It has extended elite level status for members of its Aeroflot Bonus frequent flyer programme through the end of February 2022.
