Once the new terminal opens the airport will be known as New Muscat International, with an increased capacity of 20 million passengers annually, and provisions for this to increase in stages to 24, 36 and eventually 48 million.

The new terminal will offer 45 boarding bridges and 29 contact stands, 96 check-in desks, 12 transfer desks, ten self-service check-in kiosks, and a total of ten baggage reclaim belts (eight international and two domestic).

Muscat International serves as the main hub for Oman Air, with both the Omani flag carrier and British Airways offering flights to the airport from London Heathrow.

Oman Air also launched a daily service between Manchester and Muscat in May last year.
