Lufthansa has delayed a planned increase of its Manchester-Munich service until later this year.
Business Traveller previously reported that the carrier would increase flight frequency on the route from June 1.
But in the end Lufthansa has decided to postpone the additional flight until the winter.
Although Lufthansa has yet to officially confirm the news, the fourth Manchester-Munich service will commence on November 1.
This extra daily flight, operated either by A319/A320 aircraft, is now displayed on the carrier’s website lufthansa.com, with the following schedule:
- Manchester-Munich LH2508 1355-1655
- Munich-Manchester LH2507 1155-1305
As we have noted previously Lufthansa is pouring more resources into its Munich hub at the expense of its traditional facility at Frankfurt.
To fill the extra long-haul capacity being provided at Munich, Lufthansa needs to operate more short-haul feeder services.
Yesterday the carrier’s media relations Twitter feed posted that three new destinations – Biarritz, Rijeka and Rimini, have been added to its Munich network.
However Business Traveller has now learnt that Glaswegians will be losing their route to Munich with the final flight operating on Saturday October 26.
After that date anyone wishing to fly Lufthansa from Glasgow to Munich will need to change planes in Frankfurt.
In a statement to Business Traveller, Lufthansa says “despite all efforts the route was commercially not profitable. We regret this decision which was not an easy one for us.”
“All passengers who have been booked on this direct flight for this winter have automatically been rebooked (via Frankfurt) at no extra charge.”
