Frequent flyer programme Emirates Skywards has made a number of changes to its rules for buying, gifting and transferring miles.

The cost of buying or gifting Skywards miles has been reduced from $40 to $30 per 1,000 miles, and the charge for transferring miles to another account has dropped from $25 to $15 per 1,000 miles.

At the same time the programme has increased the annual limit for buying or gifting miles from 25,000 to 100,000, and the limit on transferring miles has gone up from 25,000 to 50,000.

Finally the scheme has introduced a new option enabling members to reinstate miles which have expired in the last six months, at a rate of $20 per 1,000 miles.

Commenting on the move Dr Nejib Ben Kheder, senior vice president of Emirates Skywards, said that new features were also set to be added in the coming months, giving members “greater opportunity than ever to earn miles and access rewards across our wide range of flights, travel and lifestyle related products”.

The Emirates Skywards programme recently reached 20 million members, with a total of 35 billion miles redeemed on reward flights, hotels stays and other offers last year.
